Your Visit
We'll make your visit as comfortable as possible.
What will I expect on my first visit?
Expect a friendly atmosphere. We'll work to get to the root of the problem with your gum disease and put a plan in place so you can have a healthy and happy smile.
Your visit to Keystone Periodontics
We aim to provide each patient with professional treatment in a comfortable atmophere. You can find out more about your visit to Keystone Periodontics here.
Your medical history
When you arrive, you will be asked to fill a medical history form. Your medical profile gives us an idea about your general health so you can be treated with ultimate care and safety. Also, to be aware of any medical problems that have contributed to your present gum condition or if it may affect our course of treatment.
Once you are finished with completing your form you will be called into a dental surgery. The Specialist Dentist will have a comprehensive side discussion about your concern and try to gather as much information as possible.
What to bring
On the day of the initial visit, please bring with you the following:
- List of medication
- Toothbrush if applicable
- Your dental insurance details
- A parent or guardian must accompany patients under 18 on the day of the initial visit.
The examination
Before starting on the examination, a consent form for photographs will be given for you to sign. Photographs are very important in dental documentation, as they will be kept in your record for reference.
A full clinical examination will be performed using an instrument called a periodontal probe. The periodontal probe is a calibrated instrument done to measure sulcus depth (a V-shaped space between your gum tissue and tooth), which usually ranges from 2 to 3mm; gum disease causes deepening of this sulcus and forms a pocket. The deeper the pocket the more severe is your disease. Bleeding, pus discharge, receding gums are all factors that are recorded in your baseline chart. If your primary chief complaint is receding gums or a gummy smile these factors will be looked at in more detail.
X-Rays
We need current X-rays to investigate about any clinically detected abnormality. In the case of moderate to severe gum disease, we need to assess the extent and severity of bone loss.
Pain or discomfort
Dr. Alghazal always tries to be as gentle as possible and reassures her patients throughout the full consultation visit.
Your treatment plan
After The Specialist has collected all of the needed data, she will need 10-15 min to write down a diagnosis and creates a treatment plan. You will then be called to discuss treatment options, expectations, and risk factors. When you and Dr. Alghazal agree on the upcoming treatment you can then book an appointment at the reception desk. By the end of the visit will send you home with a treatment information leaflet and a customized Oral hygiene kit. In the meantime, a letter will be sent to your referring dentist with a full clinical report.
